Native Chinese speaker with MA Conference Interpretation and a decade of experience in Europe and US
ATA Chinese interpreter and translator

Hi, my name is Zoe Qian. I'm a conference interpreter, translator and language consultant based in Bonn, Germany. I'm an AIIC pre-candidate, member of VKD (German Conference Interpreters Association) and certified by American Translators Association (ATA) for English into Chinese translation.

I grew up in China and have spent over a decade in Singapore, the UK, Germany and the US.

After earning a Master's degree in Conference Interpretation from the renowned Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), I now help international organizations connect with their Chinese stakeholders and businesses navigate the most dynamic market in the world.

My language expertise and cultural familiarity is your passport to China.

I offer simultaneous, remote simultaneous (RSI) and consecutive interpretation between Mandarin Chinese and English as well as from German into Chinese. I am well versed in different RSI platforms.

My expertise lies in climate-related issues, international relations, trade and commerce and corporate meetings.

My deep connection with both the East and the West means your intended message always comes across pitch perfect.

I've served UN agencies, NGOs, law firms and private companies. I've helped:
- CEOs of Fortune 500 motivate their employees
- medical experts shape public policies
- environmentalists share their latest findings and inventions
- lawyers, judges and witnesses communicate seamlessly in an arbitration

Q: What's the difference between interpretation and translation?
A: Interpretation is spoken, while translation is written.

Q: Why should I hire a professional? Can I just use the machine?
A: The short answer is not hiring one can result in mistranslation, which will cost you more. My education, experience and expertise, on the other hand, can help you reach a wider audience and improve your bottom line. My degree at MIIS is recognized by both the UN and the EU. I received training in conference interpretation from AIIC members and coaching in financial, technical and legal translation from leading translators certified by ATA.

Q: Which form of Chinese do you speak?
A: I speak Mandarin Chinese and use Simplified Chinese - both are the standard form in mainland China. Though I can read Traditional Chinese, translating into it takes more than converting the simplified version into the traditional one. If you require a translation into Traditional Chinese however, I'd be more than happy to help you find a qualified linguist.

Q: What are your rates?
A: I offer a day rate for interpretation and I bill my translation services by the project. Every assignment is unique, so get in touch below for a project-specific quote.

China is changing.
So let my knowledge be your compass.
